I'd like to see Canada get the Grippen, but it will probably end up with a smaller quantity of the F-18E/F Super Hornet, for compatibility with NORAD, systems and standards. Canada has favored twin engine designs, for redundancy in patrol of vast maritime and desolate northern frontier expanses. The Canadian economy has similarly suffered and the national debt exploded under the COVID crisis, leaving far less for discretionary spending. The F-35 is likely far too overpriced, and would be a very, very poor choice from the tactical perspective of the main NORAD air defense and interception mission. Mod. link Posted on August 1, 2020 The deadline for Canada’s fighter competition has closed and only three companies have submitted their bids. Boeing will enter the competition with its Super Hornet while Lockheed Martin will compete with the F-35. Europe’s only entrant in the competition is the Saab JAS-39.
